August in Tacoma 2021


August is coming in hot and Tacoma is ready for it! We've found a number of outdoor activities including movies, music, glass art, and Shakespearean plays. Of course there will also be plenty of pop-up markets and even a chance to celebrate National Farmers Market Week. We're excited to get out on the town this month. See you around, Tacoma!

 

August 3rd

Salishan Association in partnership with the Tacoma Public Library system are excited to get neighbors back together for this years National Night Out! Join your community at the Family Investment Center for rides, raffles, live music, and some delicious food from our friends at La Ca Bar. This event will also be providing family resources and vaccinations on site!

August 6th

Pack a blanket and a picnic basket because it time for theater in the park! Join the Seattle Shakespeare Company as their Wood O group puts on Shakespeare’s, A Comedy of Errors. This *free* show at Dune Peninsula includes a magical view, a fantastic cast, and the open air. How can it get any better!? The show is first come first serve and BYOS (Bring your own seat, sandwich, soda, snack, or significant other, you choose). Show starts at 7pm sharp and donations are gladly accepted.

 

August 7th & 8th

Spring Fest is back! Only this time… it’s Summer Fest! Join over 75 makers, artist, and food truck vendors for a day of shopping, eating, and fun at Point Ruston. Enjoy the sunshine while perusing booths for handmade clothing, art, jewelry, skin care, and more. This is an excellent opportunity to support local businesses who namely do business at shows, craft fairs, and similar events which weren't possible last year due to Covid. Different vendors will be attending each day, so be sure to make a whole weekend out of it! Interested in becoming a vendor? Sign up here!

 

August 6th, 13th, & 20th

Metro Parks: Movies Under the Stars

Time for some more drive-in movie goodness! Metro Parks Is hosting three outdoor movies at the SERA complex in South Tacoma this August. Admission is *free* and there will be snacks for purchase and games before the movie. The lawn opens at 7:30pm for each showing and the movies begins at dark.

August 4th, 11th, 28th, 25th & September 1st

Every Wednesday from August 4th to September 1st live music will be taking over South 8th and Pacific Avenue! Grab some food to-go from your favorite local downtown eatery and pull up a seat for any of the five shows curated by Alma Mater. Over 21 and looking for some libations to go with your tunes? Check-out the Matador's special seating! This free event is family friendly and open to all.

 

August 20th

Spaceworks is an excellent organization in downtown Tacoma that supports local artists and entrepreneurs by providing them with space to work, commune, and learn. The Star Bazaar is a showcase of Spaceworks alumni and artists, featuring 50 vendors who will be setting up in a secret rooftop location to be announced at a later date! Come support these local artists, makers, and business owners as they are truly some of Tacoma's finest.

 

August 21st

The Hilltop Action Coalition is shutting down MLK from south 9th to south 14th for food, fun, and musical entertainment! While the normal Hilltop Street Fair was cancelled this year, HAC was able to put together this Summer Splash Block Party and Business Crawl! Starting at 10am you can make the crawl through the Hilltop Business District and visit local shops, restaurants, and businesses. Then stick around as the stages set up and the fun begins. August 28th

The Museum of Glass is bringing their art outside! Join the MOG crew as they get to work in their Mobile Hot Shop creating beautifully blown glass pieces. Then take a walk through the plaza and check out the glass art market, food trucks, and fun family friendly activities. If you feel like heading inside, catch one of the hourly tours of the featured galleries, and learn about the artists. The po-up runs from 10am to 5pm and all outdoor activities are free!

 

August 5th, 12, 19th, 26th

More outdoor shows!? Our neighbors down in Lakewood and Steilacoom have a great line-up planned! Every Thursday everything from rock to soul, to tributes and even karaoke will be waiting for you at the Fort Steilacoom Pavilion. This event it family friendly and completely free. Just bring a seat and your dancing shoes!

 

National Farmers Market Week


What's better than picking up fresh flowers and an empanada on a random Thursday or Saturday afternoon? Come support our local farmers, restaurants, and makers and say a big THANK YOU for all of their hard work to bring us the freshest of produce. We love our Famers Markets and can't wait to celebrate them!
