June in Tacoma 2021

It’s finally June and Tacoma is full of things to do! Head down to Thea Foss for an ocean celebration, take your dog on a walk for a cause, snag some sweet vinyl, shop local, or check out Tacoma’s latest market on the marina and grab a brew while you’re there. Summer time is looking cool in Tacoma.

Tacoma’s Ocean Fest invites you to celebrate Tacoma Ocean Month with days of fun!

June 4th

Lantern Paddle

Come light up Thea Foss Waterway from your own paddle board or kayak. Create a magical twilight moment to celebrate the marine life of Puget Sound by decorating your vessel with lights, nautical art, or just your smiling face. Launching anywhere along Foss Waterway at 9pm, come join or watch from the shore as the Sound sparkles. Arrive early for musical entertainment from 7pm – 9pm featuring PLU Steel Pan Ensemble and aerialist Deanna Riley.

June 5th

Beach Clean Up

Mask up, glove up, and get ready for a nice tidy walk along the waterfront. From 9am to 1pm starting at Jack Hyde park (or any point along Tacoma’s 13miles of waterfront) you’re invited to help keep our shoreline beautiful. As you walk, collect any trash you find along the water front and sidewalks (we promise there is a fun part coming). Store all waste in a bucket or trash bag and hang on to it for a final weigh-in. All trash will be weighed and placed in the Trashoctopus, a giant octopus trashcan that will be roaming beaches all month!

June 6th

Festival Day

The main event! Enjoy a day jam packed with ocean inspired art, music, dance, science talks, and water fun. Explore exhibits of underwater photography, wooden sculptures, and even a crocheted take on sea life. Feel like putting on your dancing flippers? The outdoor stage will be busy all day with Hula, percussion, brass bands, and more! Or curious about what’s really going on in the deep blue sea? Hear from a plethora of scientists, divers, and ocean activists about our marine friends and how to keep them safe. Booths with Eco info as well as youth talks will be available as well.

Follow Tacoma Ocean Fest on Facebook and Instagram for more opportunities to celebrate throughout the month!

June 8th

6th Avenue seems to always be brimming with activities, new shops, and great food. Wanna get the inside scoop? Join the virtual 6th Ave Business District Meeting via Zoom on Junes 8th and hear what's new! Meetings happen once a month and are open to the public. With businesses re-opening, now is a great time to hear what's coming up for the Ave. Plus, it's a great way to stay in touch with the community!

June 12th

June 13th

Shop local while taking in views (and brews!) of the Narrows. Situated in the former lumber mill, turned boat house in Narrow’s Marina, this new event space is the home to Markets at the Marina. Sure to draw you in with it’s outdoor patio, beer garden, food trucks, and local vendors, you can make a day of it every other Sunday with your family and friends. Like what you see? You can totally book the space for your own event! Office parties, weddings, anniversaries, and celebrations of all sorts are welcome at this 500 person venue. Maybe we’ll see you there!

Every Third Thursday

Speaking of our friends down at the Narrows! Don’t miss out on some comedy for a cause at Narrows Brewing. Every third Thursday the lovely Narrows brewing will be serving up pints and laughs all in support of local charities. Through August, $1 from every pint sold at a comedy night will benefit the charity of the month. For this month’s show on June 19th all funds raised will benefit the Tacoma Rescue Mission! Follow Narrow’s Brewing on Facebook and Instagram for a full line up of charities and comedians to come.

June 19th

Alright all you bargain hunters, now is your time. Our sweet neighbors in Fircrest are hosting a community wide yard sale. From 9am to 4pm residents will be opening up their lawns, garages, and drive-ways full of second-hand treats. Known to have dozens of participants each year (sans the lost year of 2020) you’re sure to come home with some treasure. Live in the Fircrest area? There is no cost to register! Simply fill out a registration form and you’ll be added to the advertised list. Why not do some spring cleaning, make a few bucks, and meet your neighbors in the process!

Summer camp is back! June through August, Tacoma Little Theater is opening up week long camps to it's tiniest thespians. In person classes are capped at 15 students and virtual classes will be offered after those have filled. Featuring Disney classics, fairy tales, and famous reads, there is something for every little performer. Registration is open now, so check out the line-up and have your kiddo choose their next theatrical debut!

June 20th – 26th

Do you have a Poodle-pal? A loveable Lab? A Beagle BFF? Show them off while helping raise funds for Tacoma Pierce County Humane Society! This week-long virtual celebration encourages you to take your canine companion for a walk, support local doggie businesses, and of course snap a #dogathon2021 photo for the gram. Register for free here to unlock fundraising tools and behind the scenes tours. Then take a walk through the Virtual Vendor Village and celebrate some animal loving businesses like Moose Pet Wear, Barking Farm, Woofer’s Grooming and Goodies, and more. Don’t forget your bone-afide swag, so be sure to order a dog-a-thon T-shirt!
