What to do in Tacoma this August 2025

August is here and there is still so much to do in Tacoma while the Summer is hot!


Explore arts festivals in Proctor and Ruston, bring your picnic blanket to Shakespeare in the Park, catch some whimsical tunes amongst the trees with the Tacoma Concert Band, take a walk through history along the water, explore the Hilltop Business District at their annual street fair, sip on local brews while catching some tunes at Brew Five Three, or head downtown for the annual block party.

August 2nd

Enjoy a fun-filled day for the whole family at Proctor Arts Fest! This beloved community street fair has been bringing joy to the Proctor neighborhood since 1986, and it just keeps getting better! Catch some live music, browse nearly 200 fantastic vendor booths, and indulge in delicious treats from local food trucks. Don’t forget to stop by the beer garden for a refreshing drink! There will also be a “Family Stage” with entertainment and a special kid’s area just for the little ones. It’s a great chance to meet your neighbors and support local businesses.

 


August 3rd

9th and Broadway will be bustling with art, food, and live entertainment for the annual Downtown Tacoma Block Party! This free community event will have something for all ages, from the Kids Zone to the 7 Seas Beer Garden. Wander the pop-up market, grab some local bites, stop by Spaceworks Tacoma’s Mural Fest, take a skateboarding lesson with Alchemy Skateboarding, or just sit back for some sweet live performances. Come soak up the community vibes at this awesome downtown event!

Experience the joy of live music in the great outdoors with the Tacoma Concert Band’s Summer Concert Series. Each concert will showcase a diverse repertoire of classic and contemporary pieces, set in Tacoma’s beautiful parks. This free event is great for all ages and offers a wonderful opportunity to meet local musicians while immersing yourself in Tacoma’s great music community and culture. So pack you picnic basket, snag a blanket, pull up your lawn chair, and get ready for some tunes amongst the trees.


All concerts start at 6:30 PM except where noted:

Over hill, over dale, through brush, through brier, over park… wait, stay there! Shakespeare in the Park has returned with a two-weekend run of “A Midsummer Nights Dream”. This year’s production will feature an array of South Sound performers bringing their skills to four local Tacoma parks. Simply pack up a seat and your favorite theater snacks and snag a spot in the grass. This free and family friendly event is great for theater lovers and tiny aspiring thespians alike. August 9th

Beer nerds and novice alike, prepare yourself for a day of local brews, food, and fun as Brew Five Three comes back to Tacoma! Yakima Avenue as well at the historic Tacoma Armory will be buzzing with brewers ready for you taste their latest beer and cider creations. Admission includes entry, a tasting glass, and eight tasting tokens each of which can be exchanged for one four-ounce pour. Designated drivers receive a discounted price and additional token can be purchased prior to the event. Stick around for local food trucks, games, raffles, and live music! August 16th

 Lace up your best time traveling shoes for a stroll down Tacoma's beloved Owen Beach. Park Ranger Jenn is ready to share the rich history of this remarkable portion of Commencement Bay spanning from Owen Beach Park to Point Defiance Marina. Hear about influential figures and key events that played a significant role in shaping the city’s development. The walk is roughly three miles long, so be sure to dress appropriately. While the event is free to attend, they do ask that you register online.



August 23rd

Save the date for the 10th Annual Hilltop Street Fair on August 23, 2025, 11:00 AM-7:00 PM. Classic cars displayed on a vibrant street.

It's the summer of street fairs, and Hilltop is ready to join the celebration! Commemorating its tenth year, the Hilltop Street Fair showcases the neighborhood business district that stretches from South 11th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way to People's Park. Attendees can enjoy delicious treats from ice cream vendors, pubs, food trucks, and ethnic restaurants, along with espresso and specialty stores open throughout the Hilltop Business corridor. There will also be dedicated areas for kids' activities and multiple stages featuring live entertainment. Go meet your neighbors and local business owners at this fantastic community event!

 


August 23rd – 24th
